Fashion

1.  The motel was changed dramatically.  Her face was cleaned from freckles and her eye brows were changed to be more emphasized.  Her hair was curled and her shoulders were enlarged and her eyes and lips were made bigger.

2.  Her body was darkened and made enlarged and emphasized.  Her eyes, nose, lips, and face were all made enlarged and bigger.  Her legs were smoothed and made longer same with her neck.  Her breasts were made larger and smoother like her hands.

3.Her whole body was changed.  She was made skinny and taller.  Her hair was made longer and bigger.  She was changed form being fat to smaller.

4. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like these in a photo? Why or why not?

No I do not think it is acceptable because you shouldn't be able to create another whole new person out of the same person.

5. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
No I don't think their are circumstances because it isn't human to make a person someone new.

6. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
I think that minor changes are ok like changing their eyes but changing their body is not ok.

7. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
fashion photography you are changing the picture from its original state while in photojournalism you are
just making the photo have more color.

8. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect
the ethical practice of each?
Both have a camera involved and both are taking pictures of a certain object or thing.

9. Why do you think I am showing you these three videos?
To show us what is bad about using to mush photo shop in a picture.

10. Why are none of these videos about guys???
Because the pictures in the videos are about changing an appearance and are for helping stores sell items like victoria
secrets or a store like that.

Magazine Part II

What i noticed about the four main types of covers is that they all try to tell a story with the picture and the title.  Most of them are trying to focus on one main object or character that they want to reveal in a story.  They get the objects or characters to pose in a certain way to get the best possible shot.  By getting the character to pose it tells  a story whether it is good or bad about how or what happened to that person or objet.

My favorite Cover

Finalist
Wired, September 2014, Edward Snowden

"Edward Snowden didn't want to be photographed. He wanted his actions--leaking classified NSA files--to be the focus of any story, not his face. But. But. Being shot by Platon, who has photographed world leaders like Dick Cheney, George Bush (both of them), and Vladimir Putin, puts him on the same level as those subjects, elevating his message. So out of complicated motivations comes a tense and compelling photograph. As Snowden holds the flag, his face and his hands convey both respect and hurt--a flickering combination of protectiveness and vulnerability. Words would tip the reader toward a single interpretation. So. No design. No cover lines. Just an image, however you choose to look at it."

I Liked this photo because the person taken in the photo is speaking through the picture.  The lighting of the photo is made to focus on the main person or thing in the photo.  The guy in the photo cradling the US flag in a gentle and caring manner to show that he cares for our country and wants to help protect it.  And his eyes are starring into space like he can see the future and sees what is happening whether it is good or bad for the US.  The photographer used a lot of rules to create this photo to look mysterious and the photo makes the reader want to know why this man is cradling a US flag.

self portrait part 1

1.Introduce a Prop

2.Approaching Unfamiliar Cultures

3.Play With Backgrounds

-Environmental Portrait

I like these photos because their is multiple colors and you can see exactly what the people are doing.

-Self Portrait
I picked these pots because i like how the positioned themselves in the perfect spot to fit what they are doing or how they are doing it.

-casual Portrait

I liked these because its so simple and it is focused on one person instead of multiple.

Please write a paragraph telling me your plan for your portrait assignment. Answer the following questions: who will you shoot, where will you shoot, and what will you do to make the shot successful.
-I will be shooting family members and friends outside next to a tree or a bench and i will try to use as many rules of photography to make my photo successful.

love and loss warmup

1. What emotions did you feel as you worked your way through these images?
I felt very sad and i felt very bad and sad for her.

2. The photographer said this: "These photographs do not define us, but they are us." What do you think about this comment now that you have looked at the photos?
I think that it means something more to the photographer than a stranger who just reads it because this phrase could have been something that kept her going.

3. Do you think you could shoot photos like this if you were in this situation?
I don't think i could shoot photos like this if i were in this situation.

4. If you could write Angelo a letter, what would you say to him?

I would say that his photos are amazing and really tell a story of what she went through and what he went through.

American Soldier

Set one- At Home- #1-#3
Set two- Basic Training- #4-#13
Set three- In Iraq- #14-#27

Which set of images was the most powerful? Why?
-I thought the the most powerful images were from where he was in iraq because you could see that he is scared.
How do the images work together to tell a story?
-They work together because they are in chronological order so you know what he goes through over time.

E. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
-The verbs are in present tense.

For those of you who have forgotten your verb tenses see the example below.

Present Tense: John jumps down the stairs.
Past Tense: John jumped down the stairs.

F. How do the captions enhance the photographs?

-The captions help to tell the story as it moves on.

Now go on to Part Two and Part Three - look at each photo and read the captions. There are additional images that were not part of the slideshow, be sure to pay attention to those images.

G. Summarize the story of Ian Fisher, based just on the captions.
-Ian was a big guy who was very close to his friends and got into trouble a lot.  He was drowning in school and it was very hard for him so he decided to join the army.  When he joined it was very hard for him to leave his family and friends behind.

Abandoned parks

I would like to go take pictures at the

Lincoln Park, Dartmouth, Massachusetts

amusement park because it seems to have a lot of items to shoot.  From the photos that i saw i feel like the amusement park will have a lot of crazy things.  Since it is all broken apart you could easily find a good place to make a photo.

1. Abandoned ships
2. Abandoned houses
3. Closed shops
4.Abandoned towns
5.burnt down houses and trees and buildings

I think that shooting something that is abandoned will be a good experience.  I feel like if a lot of the shops and buildings are abandoned then it will have a lot more options to shoot.  If i were to shoot here i would need to get into many tight places and have to get into the buildings maybe to get a good shot from where i want to be standing.  I would also expect to get good old pictures that could tell a story on what could of happened in the place.

If i were to shoot here i would need to find where the place was and get a good camera that can catch a lot of light.  If the camera makes a lot of photos dark like a phone camera then it probably wouldn't work to make these photos stand out.  I would also need some money to get into the place and pay the owner to let me take pictures if i have to or i would need to trespass the area to get to the photos i would want to take.

Nick Brandt

My reaction to these photos is just astonished on how he can get so close to the actually subject.  I feel this way because when he takes these photos he is literally yards away from getting killed.  And i also agree with him on how that if you are closer to the subject it gives the subject more tone.
I really like this photo cause it doesn't look real.  It looks like it could be something in a fantasy or in a magic closet.  But although it doesn't look real it looks amazing because it doesn't look real.  In my opinion i think that when pictures look like they came from a fantasy it just adds more effect to the photos.
I think that this photo uses the rule of thirds because Nick could've just taken a picture of the one giraffe but instead he opened his view and got a picture of all the giraffe in the area.

What kind of camera and lens does he use and why is this important?

-He uses a pentax 67ii to catch a more dynamic photo.

What is his reason for taking these photos?

-His reason for capturing the photos is because he wants to show people the beauty and hatred in the african desert.

What is his hope by taking these type of photos?

-To show people what is happening in the desert and what poachures are poaching.

Old People Posts

-George is in iraq, in the middle of a war, eliminating ISIS terrorists and helping the troops in battle in the evening.  He later became known as the older Chris Kyle because he killed more terrorists than ever  before in the US marine history.

-grandma(Lisa) is in the middle of the road in rush hour because her wheel chair is starting to slow down.  The cops came soon after and arrested her for going under the speed limit and flicking the cars off behind her.

-grandma just caught a raccoon in the closet tonight, she heard it but didn't know what it was so she went to the closet to catch it.  She later made it into some raccoon soup for our cousins to eat.

1.) What first caught your eye while looking at your photographers photos? Is there something in particular about their photos that made you want to choose them? Post the images with your writing.
-The first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful mountains in the background while the lights are beaming down.

2.) Look at those 2 photos you posted last time in the assignment Great Black and White Photographers Part 2. Use your five senses to tell me more about those photos. Answer them on your blog.

I see- I see a crazy scene in where u can see the light streaming through the clouds.
I smell- I smell a dry rocky smell and some dirt.
I hear- I heat the wind flowing from the mountains towards me.
I taste- I taste the damp dirt and rocks.
I feel- I feel warm and amazed at the sight i have found.

3.) Finally, what would you like to create to show the world your great photographer. Ideas include, posters, power points, a blog, etc. You tell me what you would like to create so we can come up with a plan to share your thoughts and ideas about your photographer with your classmates and with the rest of the school.

-I would like to create a Blog so i can write more about my photographer.  I think that it would be easier to present to the class if it was a blog instead of a power point or poster.

1.) What first caught your eye while looking at your photographers photos? Is there something in particular about their photos that made you want to choose them? Post the images with your writing.
-The main thing that caught my eye is how the water looks like their is no water and that it is just rock although it is still water.

2.) Look at those 2 photos you posted last time in the assignment Great Black and White Photographers Part 2. Use your five senses to tell me more about those photos. Answer them on your blog.

I see-I see giant mountainous rocks next to flowing water.
I smell-I smell dry dirt and rock from the giant rock forms I am standing on.
I hear-I hear slowly flowing water down below from where i am.
I taste-I taste the fresh air in the sky.
I feel-I feel like i am flying because of how high up i am.

3.) Finally, what would you like to create to show the world your great photographer. Ideas include, posters, power points, a blog, etc. You tell me what you would like to create so we can come up with a plan to share your thoughts and ideas about your photographer with your classmates and with the rest of the school.
-I would like to create a power point because i could then show more of his photos in a given amount of time if we have one.

Mural Project

1. What theme, that we could take here at school, could we do a series of these panels to place around the school?
-One thing that we could do for a theme that already is on is "Stand Up Bowie".d

2. Should we use phones only, or should we open it up to our regular cameras for those people that don't have camera phones?

-I think we should use both a phone and a camera.

3. Where would you want to put the mural on campus?

-I think we should put the mural on the front of the school.

Academic photo reflections

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you?
-I faced getting into a class and waiting until an ok or good photo came.
2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find

yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.
-I felt like i tried to hold and focus the camera the most and i had to just wait and be pacient until i could focus the camera.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?

-I would try to focus more on the main person or character i was trying to shoot.
4. What things would you do the same?

-I would try to wait the same amount and be pacient.

5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve?
-lines.

6. Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture?
-simplicity or rule of thirds.

7. What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is?

-rule of thirds.

This is Timmys blog and the two thing that i really liked about his photos is his subjects are clearly stated in the photo and how he introduced or tried to introduce a lot of rules in his photos.  One thing that i think he should improve on is trying to move to a different spot to see what that spot looks like then from where u were going to originally shoot.

2. List the three settings your camera has regarding setting shutter speed (these are found at #5 on the Shutter Speed website. Explain how each works - DO NOT COPY AND PASTE, use your own words.

-One is "aperture priority" which is when you set the aperture and the camera automatically sets the shutter speed.
-The second is "Shutter priority" which you manually set the shutter speed while the camera automatically sets the aperture.
-The third is "Manual" which is where you set both the shutter speed and the aperture.
